Davao City, 25 January 2016—Tata Motors Davao, as operated by Davao Bonifacio Motors Incorporated, joined Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in turning over 53 units of Tata Ace Bata jeepneys to 53 recipient barangays, one unit for each barangay, at a ceremony held at the People’s Park in Davao City at around 4:00PM yesterday.

The Tata Ace Bata barangay jeepneys are to be used for day-to-day logistics as well as for emergency response operations during calamities. The acquisition of these 53 units to outfit 53 barangays follows the 101 that had been turned over to Davao City’s police stations in March last year.

IMG20150601112645We reviewed the Tata Ace Bata with jeepney style body last June (see the story, Riding the Elephant: Tata’s surprising Ace micro-truck) and found that the rough-road capability and high ground clearance of the micro-truck chassis leverages the hauling power of a surprisingly small and economical 2-cylinder 702cc diesel engine into a local government workhorse that’s bigger than the Suzuki and Daihatsu-based multicabs that have been used in this role.
